Research Paper Requirements/Hackelman
1. Determine a topic in the media center on your first visit.
2. Compose a tentative thesis statement which is one sentence with three or more main supporting reasons, due October 12. (1 quiz grade).
3. Find evidence to support your thesis statement from a minimum of 5-7 reliable and scholarly reference sources, which must include at least one of the following:
□ 1 book
□ 1 reference book
□ 1 article from a periodical (e.g., journal, magazine, newspaper)
□ 1 reliable and scholarly Internet source (Wiki sources are not acceptable)
□ 1 more of any of the above, or an interview (personal, email, or phone) with an expert in that field who is not related to you. Quiz Grades:

You must upload you paper on your Wiki page as a word document following all MLA procedures. There is no title page. The minimum length does not include a works cited page. Five to seven pages are required for standard classes and eight to ten full pages are required for honors.
Any late papers will receive 10 points off per day (except under extreme extenuating circumstances with parent or counselor confirmation, as judged by the teacher). Failure to successfully complete the project and return all resource materials to the media center by the date specified by the media center coordinator will result in an “F” for the semester.
Oral presentation, 3-5 minutes, of your thesis, three main supporting arguments, conclusion, and call to action, with a visual (poster or PowerPoint), due .

□ Keep track of all research materials, both hard copies and electronic drafts
□ Arrange a time with me before school to use a classroom computer if you need one, or for help with editing or writing.

□ Credit all sources correctly
